  2. You clearly didn’t live in Aotearoa New Zealand in the 1950s and 1960s. It was an era in which the country shut for the weekend. Everything closed. And when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING. It wasn’t even possible for kids to buy lollies (candy/sweets). In non-inclement weather we could play in the street or at the beach, but there was no passive forms of entertainment apart from watching rugby in Winter and cricket in summer. No internet, no television. Radio was wall to wall sports commentary. We’d usually leave home extra early on Monday mornings so that we would have plenty of time to share with our friends before classes started.
